BE THE FIRST TO GET YOUR HANDS ON IT AT E3

Munich, 12th May 1999

There'll only be one star worth seeing in Los Angeles during May as discreet monsters,
the Munich-based independent development team, premiers its hotly-anticipated 3D real-time
(action) adventure The Real Neverending Story at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo.

The game - the first of its kind - has been rocking both print- and internet-based media since
its announcement in Septem-ber 1998. E3 will be the first time gamers will be able to get their
hands on this eagerly-awaited adventure game, based the world and characters from Michael Ende's
much-loved book.

The Real Neverending Story really is an adventure like no other. Set in the enchanting world of
Fantasia, players must battle against the evil Nothing in order to save the land from
disintegrating into darkness. Unlike all previous adventure games, The Real Neverending Story
takes place in real-time. As players explore the lush worlds of Fantasia - meeting and interacting
with some of the most detailed and colourful characters ever seen in a computer game - events
occur and unfold in a totally non-linear fashion, offering an unrivalled gaming experience.

The innovative 'buzzing' emotion-based dialogue system allows players to communicate with the
game's host of unique characters without having to wade through paragraphs of text, and paves
the way for unprecedented interaction, even allowing users to talk their way out of combat, if
they so choose. The Real Neverending Story also preaches no 'right' or 'wrong' way to act, with
players offered complete freedom to act as they wish in order to best solve the game.

The Real Neverending Story/2

"While most publishers concentrate on corporate willy-waving, we at discreet monsters prefer to
let our game do the talking," says Siggi Kogl, CEO and founder of discreet monsters. "We may not
'own' the show like Sony or Electronic Arts, but we're confident that those privileged enough to
play the E3 demo will realise just how much The Real Neverending Story will revolutionise the
business. The market has demonstrated that some gamers have become tired of the hackneyed and
contrived point-and-click adventures. They also have despaired at the current crop of run-of-mill
first-person action games. Mark my words - The Real Neverending Story will prove there's plenty
of life in both markets yet."

The Real Neverending Story will be running behind closed doors, with one-on-one product
demonstrations offered to selected world-wide publishers and media on booth 7341, Kentia Hall.
The game has been signed for exclusive distribution in Germany by DTP Neue Medien, one of
Germany's largest distributors for electronic media, with remaining territories world- wide
currently being negotiated.

Potential publishing partners are invited to arrange a meeting with Octagon. Interested media
should speak with Simon Byron at Bastion, discreet monsters' media relations agency.
