The REAL
Neverending Story

ECTS, September 1998

Take the elements from one of the most critically acclaimed modern novels, create a
unique 3D gaming engine, and mix in frenetic combat, devious puzzles and a powerful,
original story. What do you have? Nothing, yet. But, in Easter 1999, PC gamers everywhere
will be able to experience the unparalleled brilliance of The Real Neverending Story.

Developed by Munich's discreet monsters, The Real Neverending Story is the world's
first authentic 3D realtime adventure. Put simply, this means gamers view the mythical
world of Fantasia as if through their own eyes, interacting with its inhabitants and
exploring stunning vistas, villages and individual buildings. The plot offers
unprecedented player freedom, featuring a definite start and finish, though allowing
users to complete the game in many different ways.

The Real Neverending Story utilises discreet monsters' amazing MonsterEngine, which is
capable of rendering in realtime the darkest of dungeons, the most verdant of forests or
the busiest villages - basically any location, indoor or out, with seamless transition
between each.

Michael Ende's The Neverending Story is often seen as book for the younger reader, yet
contains themes that only adults could fully grasp. Like the book, The Real Neverending
Story will appeal to a broad band of consumers, both young and old alike.

The objective of The Real Neverending Story is to save Fantasia and rescue the Childlike
Empress. The player can wander into situations at any time, and become immediately involved
in ongoing conflicts, the search for hidden artefacts or many other predicaments.

Fantasia is split into five distinct worlds, each with its own ecosystem and inhabitants.
In the wild, overgrown terrain of the Howling Forest, a vast array of different creatures
live in close proximity to one another. Melancholy and loneliness dominate the Swamps of
Sadness, while the Land of Ghosts plays host to bizarre ghostly figures and the Dark
Princess Gaya, in a world of black magic and madness. At the mysterious Enigmatic Games
of the Southern Oracle, you will be initiated into the esoteric sciences and philosophy
of Fantasia. Finally, you will find a world of art and culture in the Childlike Empress's
Ivory Tower.

Everything about The Real Neverending Story is innovative, from the emotion-based
dialogue system, to the open-ended nature of the quest. The game effectively offers a
blank canvas and invites players to live life as they like during their quest to save
Fantasia.

With its powerful narrative, amazing visuals and flexible game mechanics, it's no wonder
that those privileged enough to have seen The Real Neverending Story have tipped it to be
one of the games of 1999.

The Real Neverending Story will be released around Easter 1999, for PC CD-ROM and DVD-ROM.
Publisher and price to be announced.
